Shooting Suspect Arrested in Route 70 Stop

A Camden man wanted in connection with an attempted murder is off the streets, after Cherry Hill officers caught him and another man with a loaded handgun during a patrol on Route 70 Tuesday, Cherry Hill Police said.
Rasool J. Jones, 34, of the 1200 block of Kenwood Avenue, who was wanted by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office in connection with an Aug. 3 shooting on Van Hook Street in Camden, was driving in a pickup with tinted windows down Route 70 around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, when Cherry Hill Officer Edward Williams stopped him following a check of the truck’s registration, police said.
Williams, with the assistance of other officers, arrested Jones and another man in the car, Tyrone Coleman, 27, of the 100 block of Branch Village in Camden, on outstanding warrants, police said.

Officers found a loaded .38-caliber handgun under the front seat of the truck, as well, police said.
Jones, who was wanted on charges of criminal attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of weapons for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of weapons, certain persons not to possess firearms and aggravated assault by pointing a firearm, allegedly shot a 23-year-old in the left arm the Camden incident, authorities said.

Investigators are working to determine whether the gun recovered in Tuesday’s car stop was the same one used in the August shooting, according to the prosecutor's office.
Both Jones and Coleman were charged in Cherry Hill with possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon; following questioning at Cherry Hill’s police headquarters, both men were taken to the Camden County Jail in default of $100,000 full cash bail.
