Cherry Hill Baseball, Softball Teams Qualify for Playoffs

Cherry Hill West baseball and Camden Catholic softball each get home games to start their tournaments.

Five of the six baseball and softball teams in Cherry Hill will head to the postseason next week, though most will face road games to start.

All three softball teams—Cherry Hill East, West and Camden Catholic—made their respective tournaments, but only the Irish will get a chance to play at home as the tournaments open.

Camden Catholic drew the No. 6 seed in the South Jersey, Non-Public A softball tournament, and will host No. 11 Holy Cross in the first round Thursday, with the winner drawing No. 3 Gloucester Catholic.

The East and West softball squads will both face road trips—though for East, it’ll be about a five-minute ride down Springdale Road. The Cougars, the No. 15 seed, head to No. 2 Eastern in the first round, while West will be on the bus quite a bit longer, as the No. 12-seeded Lions head to Cape-Atlantic powerhouse and No. 5 seed Vineland.

Both those games are scheduled for May 21.

In the baseball tournaments, only West and Camden Catholic qualified for the tournament.

The Lions’ baseball team, seeded fifth, will get a home game Monday against Toms River South, the No. 12 seed, with the winner facing ether No. 4 Williamstown or No. 13 Absegami.

Camden Catholic, meanwhile, hits the road Friday as a No. 11 seed, facing Christian Brothers Academy of Monmouth County. If the Irish win that game, they’ll either face a short road trip to No. 3 Bishop Eustace or host No. 14 Monsignor Donovan.

Both West and Camden Catholic are still alive in the annual Diamond Classic baseball tournament, with each team slated to play Saturday.
