Cherry Hill East Sends 12 to Track States, Camden Catholic Sends 9

Cherry Hill East’s Chelsea Campbell was a one-woman force, qualifying for states in three different solo events to distinguish herself among the 18 qualifiers from East and Camden Catholic in the South Jersey sectional track meets Friday and Saturday.

Campbell made it through in the 400 and 110 hurdles (sixth in each) and was the silver medalist in the high jump, the highest finish of any solo athlete from either school, leaping 5-0.

On the boys’ side, East’s Kevin Barry is through in two solo events and a relay, qualifying in the 400 (third), high jump (third) and 4x800 relay (fifth).

Camden Catholic’s Kelly McHugh will also head to states in multiple solo events, finishing fifth in the 1600 meters and third in the 3200 meters, and also made up part of the Irish’s sixth-place 4x800 relay team.

For the Irish boys, Benny Walls (400), Ben Yang (triple jump) and Collin Pierlott (800) all qualified individually and as part of the 4x400 relay team. Pierlott and Walls also went through as part of the 4x800 relay.
