Cherry Hill East Senior Out of Trauma Unit Following Crash, Police Say

Benaiah Hand remains in serious condition a day after getting involved in a collision outside the high school.

An 18-year-old Cherry Hill East senior who was injured when her Honda Civic collided with a gravel truck Monday remains in serious condition.

Benaiah Hand, who was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden following the 2 p.m. crash on Kresson Road in front of the high school, has been moved out of the trauma unit, but is still under observation, Cherry Hill Police said.

Hand was pulling on to Kresson Road near the Cooper Run Drive intersection, the exit to the school that isn't controlled by a traffic signal, when the crash occurred, police said. She suffered head injuries in the crash, according to police.

The truck's driver, Paul Fitzpatrick of Tabernacle, wasn't injured in the crash, police said.

No charges have been filed against either driver, police said.

Hand's injuries prompted a spontaneous Twitter campaign, #PrayForBenaiah, with East students sending messages of support and hope for the senior's quick recovery.
