Cherry Hill Post 372 Wins in District 4 Legion Tourney

The locals took a 7-0 lead, and needed every run they could get.

A six-run first inning is usually a sign of a brewing blowout.

But Cherry Hill Post 372’s players found out in a hurry that Ewing wasn’t folding in the opening round of the District 4 American Legion tournament at West Deptford Sunday.

After Post 372 made it 7-0 on Christian DeLuca’s solo homer in the second inning, Ewing’s Evan Patrick turned into a shutdown pitcher, sitting down 13 Cherry Hill batters in a row, as Ewing slowly clawed its way back into the game.

With the game tied, 8-8, in the bottom of the ninth, Matt Giampetro smacked a two-out shot to the left side of the infield, getting to first as the ball got away from Ewing’s Josh Sharik.

Brandon Perna came home on the play to score the game-winner, and also got credit for the pitching victory.
