East Softball Goes to Extras to Highlight Wednesday Sports

Cherry Hill East’s Kendall Geis went nine innings, but Cherokee’s Katie Oligino found a seam in the bottom of the ninth to score Tricia Griffin as East fell, 5-4.

The Cougars’ Rebecca Froyd doubled twice in the game to lead the offensive effort.

The Lions managed five hits, but only scored once against the Eagles.

Cherokee 8, East 1

The Cougars tied it up in the top of the second inning, but Cherokee grabbed it back in the bottom half, pounding out 12 hits in the win. East’s Kyle Bigley doubled to highlight the Cougars’ offense.

Camden Catholic 5, Bishop Eustace 3

The Irish plated two runs in the ninth inning after giving away a one-run lead in the seventh, as Albert Faiola and Dom Messina combined for four runs batted in for the game. Ben Acero got the pitching victory for Camden Catholic.

The Lions dropped the first set, 25-23, before going on to win the match with 25-21 and 25-15 victories in the following two.

The Cougars’ Sam Amon shot 42 to lead the team, and Mike Zilberfarb (45), Kyle Ungerleider (45) and Justin Bryan (46) helped clinch the one-stroke victory at Merchantville Country Club.
