Free ESL Classes at Voorhees Mosque This Fall
The mosque will host nine months of classes.

ESL students of all backgrounds are invited to attend free classes beginning in September at the Voorhees mosque.
Classes give students the opportunity to learn English language fluency and build individual confidence in listening, speaking and writing. The class will build language by exploring topics like fiction, history and geography. The semester runs from September to June on Saturday afternoons from 12:30 to 2 p.m. All ESL students are welcome, regardless of race, religion, gender or national origin.
Depending on the number of registrants, there may be several classes arranged by categories, including a beginner's level, mid-level, classes for women, classes for men, etc. Students are asked to contribute a one-time fee of five dollars for educational materials.

The mosque, located at 3 Lafayette Avenue in Voorhees, was the subject of the 2009 documentary “Talking Through Walls” which depicted the struggle to establish the Islamic Center and support received from non-Muslims. The ESL program’s organizer Zahida Rahman is the widow of the subject of the documentary, Zia Rahman.
“We hope to help give those that need help with English an advantage and reach out to the community at large,” said Betty Ali, an instructor for the ESL program.
