Mosquito Spraying in Cherry Hill Monday, Wednesday Nights

Camden County continues its fight against a boom in mosquito breeding.

Camden County is hitting seven neighborhoods in Cherry Hill with mosquito spray starting around dusk Monday and Wednesday.

The county's Mosquito Commission sprays in areas with documented mosquito breeding. This year, breeding is particularly prolific because of the heavy rainfall during June and into July, officials said.

“Our county mosquito commission works with the Public Health Environmental Laboratories in Trenton to verify the presence of West Nile virus in their samples,” Freeholder Jeffrey Nash said. “If a pool tests positive for West Nile virus, the Mosquito Commission returns to spray the area. The sprayings take place when the mosquitoes are most active.”

The mosquito spray is not harmful to humans or pets, according to county officials, but people with respiratory concerns and those sensitive to irritants should avoid direct contact.
