Multiple Balcony Fires Extinguished In Cherry Hill High-Rise Blaze

A high-rise fire in Cherry Hill Saturday morning was attributed to improperly discarded smoking materials, fire officials said.

CHERRY HILL, NJ - A high-rise fire in Cherry Hill Saturday was attributed to improperly discarded smoking materials, fire officials said.

The early morning blaze was reported at the Mark 70 Condominiums, involving multiple fires on multiple exterior balconies, the Cherry Hill Fire Department said in a statement.

“The quick response and hard work of suppression crews kept the fire from spreading to the interior of the building,” Cherry Hill fire officials said. “Thankfully, there were no reported injuries. The investigation conducted by members of the Fire Marshal’s Office concluded the fire was accidental in nature.”

There were no reported injuries in connection with the blaze, officials said.

“We would like to take an opportunity to remind our residents to ensure they have working smoke detectors,” Cherry Hill fire officials added. “Residents of our high rise apartment and condominium communities should be especially familiar with exit paths and be prepared to utilize stairs as elevators are often inoperable during fires.”

Residents are urged to view the fire department’s at-home smoking safety sheets for additional information.
