New Security Goes into Effect at Cherry Hill Municipal Building
It's part of an initial run, as township officials determine what's needed to meet state requirements and keep the building secure.

If you headed to the Cherry Hill township council meeting Thursday evening, you didn’t have the easy stroll through the doors and up to chambers, thanks to just-added security.
The new measures aren’t in response to any threat or related to the Sept. 11 anniversary, officials said—the state now requires security for municipal courts, and township officials opted to act out of an abundance of caution to expand it at least to meeting nights.
“It’s always important we stay vigilant,” township spokeswoman Bridget Palmer said.

For now, the township has installed metal detectors at the main entrance at the rear of the municipal building, but officials said they need to examine the logistics before taking any other steps.
“Right now, we’re just testing the water,” Palmer said. “It’s something we’re looking to expand.”
