Silver Spoon Deli Moving from Cherry Hill to Haddon Township

After catering out of their home for two years, Chef Dennis Kelley and his fiancée, Jill DeTora, are ready to bring a healthy dining alternative to Camden County.  

The couple will open their new eatery and catering service, the Silver Spoon, Sept. 3 on Haddon Avenue in Haddon Township.

Kelley, who earned his degree from the JNA Institute of Culinary Arts in Philadelphia, worked at the Cheesecake Factory, and then under Chef Joe Brown at the now-closed Melange Cafe.

But he got started in the kitchen years ago, helping his mom, Linda, operate the original Silver Spoon deli she founded in Cherry Hill in 1988.

“His mother is an unbelievable cook,” DeTora said.

The deli eventually had to take a backseat to full-time parenting for Linda Kelley, but in 2011, her son and his fiancée reopened the Silver Spoon in Cherry Hill. Two years later, they’re moving into Haddon Township.

“I love the small town aspect,” DeTora said of the community. “We feel very welcomed by the township.”

Whether they fix your lunch or plan the dinner at your wedding, said catering manager DeTora, the couple promises a menu full of healthy, homemade options.

“I was born and raised in Collingswood, and I love the farmers’ market,” said DeTora, adding that the couple is seeking a local farm partner for the business. “We use all-local ingredients and organic products whenever we can.”

The menu includes wraps, sandwiches, burgers and salads, but DeTora is most proud of the Silver Spoon’s wings.

“We have all different flavors, and they’re fresh, not frozen,” DeTora said.

The Silver Spoon also makes food for the St. Charles Barromeo Parrish School in Cinnaminson four days a week during the school year, and Kelley will teach culinary classes at the deli in the fall.

“There’s nothing too big or too small and we will work with you on our prices,” DeTora said of the catering side of the business.

The Silver Spoon deli is located at 142 Haddon Ave. in the Westmont section of Haddon Township.

The storefront will open Sept. 3, with a Sept. 14 grand opening that includes free samples and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
