West Softball Tops East in Strike Out Cancer Game
The Lions sweep the season rivalry with the win.
Cherry Hill West's Jamie Robertson tossed a three-hitter and the Lions' Kelly Brining hit a double and a triple to lead West to a 4-0 victory over Cherry Hill East in the rivals' Strike Out Cancer fundraiser game Tuesday.
West's Alicia DeFlaviis drove in the game-winning run in the third inning and robbed Cherry Hill East's Casey Clark of an extra-base hit three innings later, when it looked like the Cougars might put together a late rally.
East's batters didn't have any trouble handling Robertson's pitching—the Cougars struck out just once all game—but they couldn't find any gaps in West's defense, either.

The three hits they generated—one each from Becca Froyd, Andi Leff and Kendall Boardman—were all singles, and the closest East threatened was in the first inning, when Boardman walked, stole second and was sacrificed to third, only to get stranded on two straight grounders to West shortstop Sierra Machinski.
Brining's big hits only amounted to one run for West, which took advantage of five Cougars errors to help the cause. Machinski drove in another run on a sacrifice fly, and Chelsea Holiday drove in another with a single.
