Woodcrest Bid Requires Special Council Meeting Friday

The township council could OK spending local open space funds in the auction for the bankrupt golf course.

Cherry Hill's township council will hold a special meeting Friday morning to consider using local open space funds to help bolster Camden County's bid for Woodcrest Country Club, which goes to auction Monday.

The 9 a.m. meeting comes on the heels of the freeholder board's announcement Wednesday they were taking the lead on the bid for the club, in an effort to preserve it as green space, and is necessary because of a resolution passed Monday night, which requires council's OK on spending any local money in the auction.

There will likely be a closed-session caucus before the public portion, township spokeswoman Bridget Palmer said, and there will be a public hearing after the final vote on using the local funds.
