Seat Belt Check Catches Child Support Scofflaw, Police Say

The following information was provided by the Palmyra Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Delran man might be wishing he’d worn his seat belt last week.

Thomas Edgecomb, 50, was the passenger in a car stopped on Route 73 in Palmyra around 11:30 p.m. Aug. 21, and when officers ran his information after noticing he hadn’t been wearing his seat belt, they came back with a hit, police said.

Edgecomb, as it turned out, was wanted on a Burlington County Sheriff’s warrant for failing to pay $85,242.75 in child support, police said.

While arresting him on the warrant, officers found two bags of marijuana and a foil bowl used to smoke the drug, police said, adding possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia to the child support charges.

Edgecomb was taken to the Burlington County Jail on the outstanding warrant and issued a summons for the drug charges.
