Human Teeth, Hair Found In NJ Woman's Car Grille: Police

Human remains were found in the undercarriage of a woman's car when she took it in to be serviced on Monday, according to police.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Human teeth and hair were discovered in the grille of a woman's car when she took it in to be serviced in Linden on Monday morning, according to police.

Linden police arrived at Goodyear Service Center after an employee reported finding teeth and hair in the car while it was being put on a lift for servicing.

According to Linden Mayor Derek Armstead, who spoke with NBC New York, the teeth were first believed to be from a deer. A forensic study of them later confirmed they belonged to a human.

Police Capt. Christopher Guenther said it was later determined that the remains were related to the woman's involvement in a previously reported multi-vehicle auto-pedestrian crash on the turnpike in Essex County in December.

According to NBC New York, police believe the female driver hit someone who died but did not realize what she had hit. The person's body had reportedly been run over multiple times.

Guenther said the vehicle crash in question was not a hit-and-run and that police were not looking for the driver. He said that, for whatever reason, these remains were not discovered at the time of the crash.

The remains were turned over to the Essex County Medical Examiner's Office, Guenther said. No further police involvement is expected.
