Fatal Hit-And-Run, Union County Man Arrested

The 53-year-old man fled the scene of a crash that resulted in the death of a Union County man, Roselle Police said.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Police arrested a man for his role in a fatal hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of a Union County man, as well as serious injuries to a Pennsylvania woman, Roselle Police said.

Troy Edwards, 53, of Roselle was driving north onto Garden Drive in August of last year when he collided with another car, resulting in the death of 60-year-old Robert Tucker Jr. After the crash, Edwards ran away, fleeing the scene.

After an investigation led by Roselle Police, the Union County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit, Linden Police Department Traffic Bureau and the Union County Homicide Task Force, Edwards was charged with second degree leaving the scene of a crash, which resulted in a death. He was also charged with third degree leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in serious injuries.

Edwards was driving a 2007 Kia Spectra when he made a left turn onto Garden Drive and collided with a 2012 Audi Q5. Tucker was in the front seat on the passenger side and died as a result of the crash. Amanda Cantrell, 36, sustained serious, but non life-threatening, injuries from the crash.

“The Borough Council and I share the sadness the Tucker family feels with the death of Robert Tucker Jr., and we offer condolences to his family," Roselle Mayor Donald Shaw said. "Thank you to all who have led or assisted in this investigation as we are one step closer in achieving justice for the Tucker Family. Our prayers for justice and peace continue.”

Roselle Police Chief Stacey L. Williams also offered her condolences to the Tucker family.

"We will now seek to bring this defendant to justice for his alleged actions, in hopes of bringing some comfort to the Tucker family,” Williams said,
