Union Co. Man Involved In Elizabeth Shooting Arrested: Prosecutors
The 36-year-old was arrested Tuesday in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Elizabeth in December, prosecutors said.
UNION COUNTY, NJ — A Union County man was arrested on Tuesday in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in Elizabeth this past December, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, Elizabeth Police Director Earl J. Graves and Elizabeth Police Chief Giacomo Sacca jointly announced Wednesday.
Elizabeth Police found 34-year-old Shamar Brown of Elizabeth suffering from a gunshot wound at the intersection of Second and Bond Streets on December 16. He was then pronounced dead at the scene, Assistant Prosecutor Scott Peterson said.
After an investigation, Deshon Fleming, 36, of Elizabeth was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose in connection with the shooting death of Brown.

The Union County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force and the Elizabeth conducted the investigation, leading to identification of Fleming as the shooter.
Prosecutors said he was charged in February of this year and remained a fugitive until he was located and apprehended Tuesday afternoon at the Flora Motel in Elizabeth by members of the Elizabeth Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).

Fleming was taken to Union County Jail pending a court appearance.
“We are appreciative of the collaboration with the local and federal law enforcement agencies
who assisted our Office in locating and apprehending the suspect,” Prosecutor Daniel said. “And we hope that this arrest can bring some small measure of comfort to all those grieving Mr. Brown.”
