Union County Hosting Foreclosure Education Forum

A free educational forum offering guidance to distressed homeowners will be held next week.

Union County will be hosting a free, educational forum providing guidance to property owners fearing or trying to avoid foreclosure next week.

The forum will take place on Thursday, April 23, from 6 p.m. yo 7:30 p.m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 515-521 West Fourth St. in Plainfield. The forum, called “Foreclosure: Moving From Fear To Positive Action,” is free to attend.

The program is sponsored by the Union County Human Relations Commission and the Union County Foreclosure Task Force, in cooperation with the New Jersey Public Defender’s Office of Dispute Settlement and the Union County Superior Court, county officials said.

“Understandably, anyone who is facing or fearing foreclosure is anxious and scared,” Lenny Guarino, Co-Chair of the Union County Human Relations Commission said in the release. “They do not know how to save their homes or how to ask for help. They also are prey to con artists and scams. We want to let these residents know that they do not have to face this alone.”

County and New Jersey State officials will be in attendance. Moderator and panelist Elizabeth Hulse of the New Jersey Public Defender’s Office of Dispute Settlement will provide an overview of the state’s foreclosure mediation program.
