Teacher, 72, Accused Of Sexually Assaulting NJ Student: Police

UNION COUNTY, NJ — An 72-year-old Elizabeth high school math teacher was charged after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student over the course of several months, according to the Union County Prosecutor's Office.

Bipradas Mookerjee, 72, of North Brunswick, was charged with third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Mookerjee was a math teacher at Frank J. Cicarell Academy in Elizabeth.

In mid-January, the Elizabeth Police Department received a report that a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted, which was then passed on to the Prosecutor’s Office’s Special Victims Unit.

An investigation revealed that the alleged incidents occurred from Oct. 2021 to January of this year, while Mookerjee taught math at the high school, according to Unit Supervisor and Assistant Prosecutor Caroline Lawlor, who is prosecuting the case.

The 14-year-old was a student at Frank J. Cicarell Academy during the time of these alleged criminal acts.

Mookerjee was arrested Tuesday and sent to Union County Jail. He was then released after a pretrial detention hearing in Union County Superior Court. He is currently on supervised release awaiting his next court appearance.
