DWI, Thefts, Drug Possession: Recent Police Activity in Florham Park

Recent activity as reported by the Florham Park Police Department.

Florham Park Police reported the following recent incidents:

Sept. 8

A motor vehicle stop at 12:59 a.m. led to the arrest of Demetrius I. Camacho, 25, of Florham Park.

Officer Thomas Ciasullo performed a motor vehicle stop after observing the driver fail to signal a lane change. While speaking to Camacho, Ciasullo said he detected the odor of marijuana.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed suspected marijuana.

Camacho was charged with:

  • Marijuana possession
  • Driving while suspended
  • Failure to change address
  • Possession of CDS in a motor vehicle
  • Failure to signal

Sept. 11

A motor vehicle stop on Ridgedale Avenue lead to the arrest of a 42-year-old Cedar Grove man for DWI.

At 2:03 a.m., Officer Brian Mensing alerted Officer Thomas Belli of an erratic driver on James Street heading towards Ridgedale Avenue.

Belli saw the driver fail to maintain his lane and conducted a motor vehicle stop.

While speaking to Damien-Adel D. Pacheo, Belli detected the odor of alcohol on the driver's breath.

Pacheo failed subsequent field sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with:

  • DWI
  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to maintain a lane

Sept. 12

A motor vehicle stop at 11:44 p.m.on Columbia Turnpike resulted in the arrest of a 53-year-old Florham Park man.

Eugenio Pereira was stopped for having a malfunctioning headlight. The officer detected alcohol on the driver's breath.

Pereira failed subsequent field sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with:

  • DWI
  • Refusal to submit to a breath test
  • Reckless driving
  • Maintenance of lamps

Sept. 13

A motor vehicle stop at 10:41 p.m. on Park Avenue led to the arrest of a 40-year-old Madison man for DWI.

Officer Thomas Belli observed a vehicle driven by Michael P. Hines fail to maintain its lane. After conducting a motor vehicle stop, Belli formed the opinion that Hines was under the influence of alcohol.

Hines, 40, was charged with:

  • DWI
  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to maintain a lane
  • Failure to possess an insurance card

Sept. 20

Officer Thomas Belli arrested a 24-year-old West Orange man for marijuana possession.

At 4:25 p.m., Belli responded to the parking lot of 184 Columbia Turnpike on the report of a suspicious vehicle.

Upon approaching the vehicle, Belli detected the odor of burnt marijuana and saw drug paraphernalia and marijuana residue inside.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up more marijuana.

Hall was charged with

  • Marijuana possession
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Sept. 21

A motor vehicle stop at 9:49 a.m. led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Newark man.

Officers Brian Mensing and Kevin Langereis pulled over a vehicle with tinted windows. Upon arrival, the officers detected the odor of raw marijuana, which was found – along with drug paraphernalia – during a subsequent search.

Jerry Myrtil was charged with:

  • Marijuana possession
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of CDS in a motor vehicle
  • Obstructed view

The officers also arrested Nicole K. McDuffie-Riley, 31, of Newark after a traffic stop. They detected a strong odor of raw marijuana and a subsequent search revealed marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

McDuffie-Riley was charged with:

  • Possession of more than 50g of marijuana
  • Possession with intent to distribute
  • Possession of CDS in a motor vehicle
  • Obstructed view
  • Failure to maintain a lane

A motor vehicle stop at 12:50pm led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Bloomfield woman.

Officer Daniel Braico and Detective Brian Ford conducted a motor vehicle stop on Rt. 24 after
a random computer check indicated that the registered owner of the vehicle had a suspended
driver’s license.

While speaking to the driver, Tabatha C. Reese, the officers detected a strong odor of raw marijuana. When questioned, Reese handed over a bag of marijuana to the officers.

She was charged with:

  • Marijuana possession
  • Driving while suspended
  • Maintenance of lamps

Sept. 22

At 7:30 a.m., Florham Park Police took several reports of vehicle thefts on Crane Lane and Spring Valley, Deefield and Harvale drives.

The vehicle were parked at residences and left unlocked.

Residents are urged to remove valuables and key fobs and lock their vehicles.

Sept. 25

A motor vehicle stop at 5:31 p.m. led to the arrest of a 21-year-old Wilmington, Del. man.

Officer Thomas Belli stopped to provide assistance to a disabled motor vehicle on Ridgedale Avenue.

While speaking to the occupants, Belli detected the odor of burnt marijuana.

The driver, Jacob Michael Goorland, admitted to smoking marijuana in the vehicle and admitted to possessing marijuana and paraphernalia.

A subsequent search turned up the aforementioned contraband.

Goorland was charged with:

  • Marijuana possession
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Sept. 27

A motor vehicle stop at 10:03 p.m. led to the arrest of a 28-year-old West Orange man.

Officer Joseph Rega observed a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lanes of Park Avenue.

During the traffic stop, Rega detected the odor of alcohol and formed the opinion that the driver, Hersh H. Shah, was operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Shah was charged with:

  • DWI
  • Refusal to submit to a breath test
  • Reckless driving
  • Wrong way on a one way street
  • No liability insurance
  • Failure to exhibit documents

Sept. 28

A motor vehicle stop at 10:53 p.m. led to the arrest of an 18-year-old Elizabeth man.

Officer Brian Sampson observed a vehicle on the side of Park Avenue with its hazard lights activated.

While attempting to provide assistance, Sampson detected the odor of alcohol and observed a cup containing a dark liquid, in the center console as well as two bottles of whiskey in the rear of the vehicle.

Sampson determined that the cup's contents were an alcoholic beverage.

Willian A. Pellecher Flores failed subsequent sobriety tests and Sampson came to the opinion that Flores was under the influence of alcohol.

Flores was charged with:

  • DWI
  • Reckless driving
  • Open container in a motor vehicle
