Registration Deadline Approaches for Special Elections

Elections to fill Sen. Frank Lautenberg's seat are approaching, and faster than you think.

Hard to believe, but it's nearly that time again.

The special election primary to fill Sen. Frank Lautenberg's seat is a month away, but the registration deadline is in only 12 days on July 23. Residents can register at their local town clerk's office, or at the Morris County Clerk's Office.

There are currently 8,174 registered voters in East Hanover, according to Township Clerk Paula Massaro. Of those, 2,783 are Republicans and 1,963 are Democrats.

Primary elections will take place on August 13 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Massaro said district polling places in East Hanover will remain unchanged:

  • District 1: East Hanover Library
  • District 2: Senior Citizens Center
  • District 3: Central School
  • District 4: Frank J. Smith School
  • Districts 5 & 6: Recreation Center
  • District 7: East Hanover Fire Department
  • District 8: Hanover Park High School

Florham Park Clerk Sheila Williams did not respond to emails asking about polling locations.

The regular election for Lautenberg's seat will take place on Oct. 16.
