8 Edison Students Graduate From 2024 NJ Governor’s STEM Program

The year-long program provides a 360-degree view of New Jersey's STEM economy through conferences, lab tours, and research.

EDISON, NJ – Eight students from Edison recently graduated from the NJ Governor’s STEM Scholars program. The program is part of the Research & Development Council of New Jersey.

Nishi Agrawal, Kerat Bangar, Sonal Lakhani, Akhil Vmuri, Yash Verma, Reeti Rout, Zashaan Tahaqqum Shaik, and Shreyaah Iyer were among 123 NJ high school and college students who graduated on May 11.

“Over the past year, 123 of New Jersey’s most promising high school and college students have received an immersive look into the state’s STEM economy, better preparing them for their careers here in the Garden State,” Alise Roderer, director of the Governor’s STEM Scholars said in a media statement.

“As a Governor’s STEM Scholar, these students gained a unique introduction to New Jersey’s STEM economy and opportunities through conferences, field trips, internship opportunities, and a collaborative research project.”

Nishi Agrawal is a junior at Mountain Lakes High School. Kerat Bangar is a sophomore at Middlesex College. Sonal Lakhani is a senior at John P. Stevens High School. Akhil Vemuri is a senior at John P. Stevens High School. Yash Verma is a sophomore at John P. Stevens High School. Reeti Rout is a sophomore at John P. Stevens High School. Zashaan Tahaqqum Shaik is a junior at Edison High School. Shreyaah Iyer is a junior at John P. Stevens High School.

As graduates of the Governor’s STEM Scholars, students will have access to the Governor’s STEM Scholars alumni network of over 800 students, enabling them to stay connected to STEM jobs and opportunities within the state.

Throughout the academic year, each student participated in four conferences highlighting New Jersey STEM opportunities in government, academia and industry. Each Scholar was led by a college-level team leader, mentored through professional STEM advisors, and produced a community-based research project.
