Real Time Election Results: Metuchen Board of Ed 2018

Two new candidates and an incumbent were elected to the Board of Education, and voters gave Mayor Jonathan Busch their stamp of approval.

METUCHEN, NJ — After a long campaign season in Metuchen, the results are e in for new Board of Ed members, as well as the mayoral race.

As of 9:33 p.m., these are the unofficial results for Board of Education with all districts reporting (winners are in bold):

  • COOK 3,103
  • DERFLINGER 2,597
  • MANLEY 2,506
  • WALDRON, Jr. 1,416

"I’m so grateful and indebted to you all!" Manley said in a public post to voters.

The Board of Education was the only contested local race this year. Michelle Cook, Chris Alan Derflinger, Justin Manley and William Waldron ran for the three open seats. Manley is the only incumbent.

Some key issues facing the Board this upcoming term is the overcrowding in schools, and continuing to provide Metuchen students with a high-quality education while balancing the need for a safe learning environment.

Democratic Mayor Jonathan M. Busch, who was appointed after the previous mayor left to join the Murphy administration, ran unopposed for a one year term. He was re-elected according to unofficial vote results.

Sheri-Rose Rubin and Jason Delia, both newcomer Democrats, are running unopposed for two open seats on the borough council. They will replace outgoing council members Ronald Grayzel and Allison Inserro, according to unofficial vote results.
