Star Student Athlete From Edison Prioritizes Physical & Mental Health

EDISON, NJ— We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we’ve launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

This submission comes from Saakhi who nominated Madhu of Edison-Metuchen.

Saakhi, who is on cross country/track team, shared with Patch why her teammate should be recognized as a star.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

She should be recognized because as a high school athlete of cross country, winter track, and spring track she was very committed to the sport and showed that she was going to do her best no matter what obstacles she had to face. She never ran for a team in middle school and started her freshmen year and the fact that she was new to the sport and challenged her, shows that she is willing to learn and try new things out of her comfort zone.

As a captain and varsity athlete this year for cross-country she did a phenomenal job of leading her team and supporting them to be themselves and do their best. She would give her team advice but also would plan meet ups with her team so the team could bond with each other and build special connections. She also did really well in her races and would PR for them.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

She prioritized not only her physical health through cross country but also her mental health.
