A Fair Lawn High School teacher is alleged to have also provided and taken controlled substances with the student, the prosecutor said.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — A Fair Lawn High School art teacher faces charges of sexual assault stemming from "allegations of inappropriate contact with a former student" a few years ago.

That quote comes from Superintendent of Schools Nicholas Norcia, who wrote in a letter to parents that no current students are at risk.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office announced the arrest of Christine E. Knudsen, 44, of Fair Lawn, on Friday.

According to the prosecutor, the office was notified by the Institutional Abuse Investigation Unit of the New Jersey Department of Children and Family on Sept. 14 that Knudsen had "engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student at the school where she is employed."

Further investigation revealed that Knudsen, a graphic arts teacher, engaged in a sexual relationship with the student, but also took and provided "controlled dangerous substances" with the student.
