Fair Lawn Paying $35K For Care Of Dogs Rescued In Raid
The dogs are at Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro and will not be put up for adoption until the owner's legal issues are resolved.
FAIR LAWN, NJ – Eleven dogs rescued from a Fair Lawn home last month that are now being cared for at the county animal shelter will cost the borough $35,000 until the owner releases custody, according to officials.
Marquan Carter, 34, was arrested after police say they found six ounces of heroin, 16 grams of cocaine and more than $47,000 in cash hidden around his home and car.

Police also reported finding eleven dogs at Carter's Morlot Avenue home they also found eleven dogs, some of which appeared to be malnourished, inside cages, along with two treadmills with harnesses for the canines.
The animals were removed from the home by Bergen County Animal Control and an investigation into animal cruelty is still being conducted, authorities said.

The dogs are now at Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro and will not be put up for adoption until Carter's legal issues are resolved.
Fair Lawn Borough Manager Jim Van Kruiningen Jr. said, "The Borough is responsible for all costs incurred until the owner of the dogs releases full ownership and custody to Bergen County."
Three children, between the ages of 12 and 13, were also found and turned over to a relative, police said.
