Barbershop Pros Donate Haircuts To Men In Need In Freehold
Clients at a Freehold agency's winter housing program get fresh looks with free haircuts from Reflections II Barbershop, Freehold Township.

FREEHOLD, NJ — A new season called for a fresh start for some clients at the Winter Overnight Program run by the Emergency Housing and Advocacy Program in Freehold.
Mario Hernandez and Jahmar Powell of Reflections II Barbershop of Freehold Township gave several clients of the program stylish new haircuts last Sunday as they begin to look for jobs and transition to more permanent housing.
And the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine's parish hall in Freehold Township was transformed into a makeshift barber shop for the event, the agency said.

EHAP's shelter program runs from December through March, said Nina Rizzo, director of operations.
Hernandez said he was approached by his neighbor, a Winter Overnight Program volunteer, to help with the haircuts. And he brought along his 14-year-old daughter, Isabella, to show her the value of helping out in the community, he said.

"It definitely was fun, and it was all about giving back," said Hernandez, who owns the barbershop with a partner.
He said Jahmar Powell, a barber at the business, is a very active volunteer. He volunteers for We Are The Future, a Freehold sports program for young people.
"Jahmar was all for it," Hernandez said.
Hernandez also brought along daughter Isabella to help out.
"It's good to know that everybody is not as fortunate as us. People go through stuff, and we have to be grateful," Hernandez said.
He said that most of the men were going on job interviews. So the timing was right for a haircut or shave. "New job, new life," Hernandez said.
The Winter Overnight Program is completing its 19th season this year, the agency said. EHAP partnered with six local houses of worship in western Monmouth County this season to shelter up to 12 homeless men at a time in their respective locations.
"We are grateful to the barbers who gave their time and talents to our clients as they are about to transition into permanent housing, new jobs and another exciting phase of their lives," said Nina Rizzo.
