Paperwork Delay Reason Behind Wrongly Named Borough BOE Member

A former Borough BOE member listed as one of the 186 New Jersey school board members and trustees required to leave their position, actually resigned months ago for new employment.

After failing to complete a background check as required by law, the New Jersey Department of Education has ordered 186 school board members across the state to resign from their positions. As a result of a state level paperwork processing delay, former Freehold Borough board member, Kevin Tennant was one of the board members listed to immediately resign.

Former Freehold Borough BOE member, Kevin Tennant, resigned from the Borough BOE in early November after accepting a new job. Prior to his resignation, Freehold Borough Business Administrator, Patrick DeGeorge, filed the necessary paperwork to alert the DOE of Tennant's resignation.

“Mr. Tennant resigned on November 7th. On November 2nd, I submitted to the Criminal History Review Unit (CHRU) the required report of board members who did or did not participate in the criminal history background check process. In that document I clearly reported mentioned Mr. Tennant's resignation,” explained DeGeorge in an e-mail.

DeGeorge further explained that Tennant left the Borough BOE because of his new job in New York City, citing the time commitment and travel requirements of the job being the reason behind his resignation.

“All I know is we did everything we were supposed to do in this matter and the district is not in violation of any law,” said DeGeorge.
