The scammers are asking residents to make deposits to pay off warrants, the Sheriff's Office said.

FREEHOLD, NJ — The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office is urging the public to watch out for phone scammers posing as members of the Sheriff's Office and stealing residents' money.

Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden said the office has received multiple reports of callers posing as active or retired members of the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office.

During these calls, scammers claim there are existing warrants that must be paid and ask for funds to be deposited through Bitcoin, Coin Me Kiosk or Apple Pay.
