Unresponsive Toddler Left In Bathtub Hospitalized, North Jersey Woman Charged

The charge comes after a nearly four-month-long investigation.

WARREN COUNTY, NJ — A Warren County woman faces child endangerment charges after she left a toddler in a bathtub unattended, prosecutors said.

Amber L. Schubert, 28, of Phillipsburg, was charged last week, nearly four months after the bathtub incident. She faces one charge of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

On May 28, around 5:30 p.m., Phillipsburg police were called to a residence on Mercer Street on reports of an unresponsive child.

Police discovered that the child had been left alone in a bathtub and suffered from “submersion injuries,” authorities said.

Police began life-saving procedures on the toddler, who was eventually rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, Warren Campus. The toddler was later taken to St. Luke’s Bethlehem Campus and admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for “advanced treatment.”

An investigation by local police and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Schubert was “legally responsible” for the toddler at the time of the incident.

She was arrested and charged on Tuesday.

If convicted, Schubert faces up to ten years in prison.
