NJ Man Shot And Killed After 911 Break-In Call

The 911 caller and the person trying to break into the home knew each other, police say.

PHILLIPSBURG, NJ — An East Orange man was found fatally shot after police got a 911 call early Monday morning about an attempted break-in on Summit Avenue.

At about 4:30 a.m. on Monday, a resident called police saying that someone was trying to "forcibly gain entry" into their home, according to authorities.

Police arrived at the 100 block of Summit Avenue to find a man suffering multiple gunshot wounds outside of the Phillipsburg home.

The man, who was later identified as Kevin Clervil, was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital Warren Campus, where he was pronounced dead, officials say.

Investigators noted that the 911 caller and Clervil knew each other. They have not identified the person who made the call.
