The free community fishing event is planned for Oct. 23 and open to all age groups.
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — How to obtain a fishing license, buy gear, learn about tackle and lures and some other topics, are part of an upcoming free community fishing event.
PEACE NJ and Trout Unlimited are hosting “Reel Hackettstown” on Saturday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Alumni Field on Willow Grove Street, open to all age groups and skill levels.
The event teaches “Fishing 101,” including teaching attendees how to cast, techniques to catch their first fish, water safety, more about tackle and lures, about buying fishing gear and how to obtain a fishing license.

There are also volunteering opportunities with PEACE NJ that day, a Hackettstown-based, non-profit group, which is an acronym for “People Enjoying Active Conservation of the Environment in NJ.” Among them, PEACE NJ is looking for volunteers who can help teach kids about casting, including volunteers who are bilingual. Volunteers can also help by donating working rods and reels prior to Reel Hackettstown, to help teach people who would like to learn, but don’t own fishing equipment.
