Man Charged In Bagel Shop Burglary: Hackettstown Police

Joseph Demauex of Riverdale was charged in the theft of cash and two registers from Budd Lake Bagel & Deli II, police said.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A Riverdale man was charged in a December incident at a local bagel shop in which cash and two cash registers were taken through the store’s drive-thru window, according to the Hackettstown Police Department.

Joseph Demauex, 35 of Riverdale, was charged on Wednesday with burglary, theft and criminal mischief, said Sgt. Darren Tynan, a spokesperson for Hackettstown police.

Demauex was in custody in the Warren County Correctional Center awaiting a court appearance on an unspecified date, Tynan said. It is unclear whether bail was set.

Hackettstown police asked for the public’s help on Dec. 31 about a break-in and burglary at Budd Lake Bagel & Deli II on Mountain Avenue in Hackettstown on Dec. 29.

At the time, a police said a person entered the building through the drive-thru window and took $1,600 cash and two cash registers valued at $1,650 each, which contained an unknown amount of cash.

The Hunterdon and Morris county prosecutor’s offices each assisted with the investigation, along with police departments from Fairfield and Clinton, Tynan said.
