Man Fires Gun Inside NJ Home, Bullet Enters Neighbor’s House, Cops Say

Two people were inside the neighboring house when the shot went off, police said.

WARREN COUNTY, NJ — A Paterson man was arrested after firing a gun in a Warren County residence, hitting the inside of an occupied neighbor's home, officials said.

On Monday, around 9:30 a.m., police responded to shots fired inside a house in the area of Fox Street in Phillipsburg. Responding officers were given a description of the shooter as they responded to the call.

When police arrived, they found the reported shooter, Rashad A. McCaskill, 40, leaving the residence, authorities said.

According to investigators, McCaskill fired the gun after getting into an argument with a resident. The bullet fired through the home’s wall and ended up in a neighbor’s interior wall, officials said.

According to police, two people were inside the home when the bullet entered. No injuries were reported, authorities added.

Investigators found McCaskill had a Glock 9mm handgun with a high-capacity magazine.

McCaskill was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, certain person not to possess a weapon, hindering apprehension, possession of a large-capacity magazine, as well as two counts of criminal mischief, on account of the two homes damaged in the shooting.

If convicted of all charges, McCaskill faces up to 26 years in prison.
