Man Injured In Accident At Hackettstown Livestock Auction

A bull knocks man into a post while being loaded into a trailer.

A 61-year-old man from Bangor, PA was injured Tuesday evening in an accident involving a bull at the Hackettstown Livestock Auction. According to an investigation by the Hackettstown Police Department, the man was part of a group attempting to load a 1200-pound bull into a trailer.

"This is just an unfortunate event that occurred, a case of wrong place, wrong time," said Howard Hoffman, an auction manager at the cooperative in North Jersey. "These are farm animals, not pets. They're taken out of their normal environment and they're a little scared. We have safeguards in place but unfortunately, this fellow was in the wrong place, at the wrong time."

According to Hoffman, the 61-year-old man was in an alley after the first attempt to get the bull onto the trailer failed. A gate hadn't been closed after the failed first attempt and the bull came around a little riled up, into the alley where the man was standing, and knocked him into a wooden post.
