Pies And Ice Cream Await Visitors Steps Outside Of Hackettstown

INDEPENDENCE, NJ — Only a few miles drive from downtown Hackettstown, Vienna Hill Farm & Market now offers pies and ice cream among its regular offerings.

Vienna Hill, with a Hackettstown address at 3 Asbury Road, has been around since 2002, but under new ownership beginning in 2020 with Dave and Anne Slaperud. It's now a new stop in the area for ice cream sandwiches, with local old-fashioned ice cream coming soon.

Pies are another one of Vienna Hill’s offerings, Dave Slaperud said, with son Christopher Dziuba an experienced baker and gardener, who helps to co-manage the market.

“He has helped to grow it into a special place,” Slaperud said about their son.

Shoofly, apple, cherry, mini blueberry and fresh baked pecan pies, are just a few of the varieties the market has started selling on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Slaperud added.

“We will likely also do some peach and other varieties,” he said. “We basically try to provide whatever the customers are asking for.”

Some of the other regular items at the market are locally-sourced vegetables, fruits, honey, roasted Kars coffees and a range of eggs, including chicken, duck and quail.

Wax & Wicks Candles, Valley Shepherd Creamery and Baldwin Dairy are some of their partners.

The farm plans to have its own corn later in the summer, Slaperud said.

The market is open weekly every day except Tuesday.
