Redevelopment Plan Coming Up For Vote In Hackettstown

A public hearing is scheduled for the "Bergen Tool Redevelopment Plan" on March 10.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A redevelopment plan to revitalize vacant and underused properties in a section of Hackettstown, is planned for a public hearing and vote at Hackettstown’s Town Council meeting on March 10 at 7 p.m. at the municipal building.

According to the plan, attached to ordinance 2022-02, two lots, known as the Bergen Tool property, includes two tracts in the East Stiger and Main Street, totaling 11.22 acres. The redevelopment plan area also includes a 35-foot wide and 621.66 foot deep portion of the Bergen Street right-of-way from Main Street, with the total area of all tracts, 11.719 acres.

The redevelopment plan aims to bring “mixed-use development to stimulate economic development in Hackettstown to benefit the public welfare,” according to the plan. That is planned to involve a pedestrian-oriented area with economic and housing opportunities.

The land use would be sensitive to nearby neighborhoods, with a “visually appealing environment,” the plan states.

The Bergen Tool Redevelopment Zone District would allow some types of retail and personal service locations, offices, banks without drive-thru lanes, restaurants and taverns without drive-thru lanes unless within 200 feet of Main Street and Route 46’s right-of-way line, coffee and donut shops that are restaurant and drive-thru styles, apartments or condominiums, townhouses, hotels, indoor commercial recreation, hotels and other uses.
