Firefighters Take Second in Memorial 5K
Haddonfield volunteer firefighters ran in memory of fallen comrades at the Heroes to Hero 5K in Gloucester City.
Volunteer firefighters from took second place in their division at the 10th annual Heroes to Hero 5K run.
The Haddon Fire Company Running Team featured 11 runners, led by Lt. Craig Jordan, firefighter Brian Plodizyn and Capt. Joe Walls. The team participates in several 5Ks annually as part of a health, wellness and fitness initiative founded by Jordan.
The Oct. 15 run, in Gloucester City, honors three firefighters who died in the line of duty. Thomas Stewart III of the Gloucester City Fire Department, Chief James Sylvester of the Mount Ephraim Volunteer Fire Department and Deputy Fire Marshal John West Sr. of the Camden County Fire Marshal’s Office died July 2, 2002, attempting to save three girls from a house fire.

The Heroes to Hero 5K honors the men’s work and sacrifice.
Organizers say it is one of the biggest, most competitive 5Ks in the tri-state area, and regularly attracts past Olympians and highly ranked international runners.
