Getaway Car in A.C. Homicide Stolen From Haddonfield Resident

The car was reported stolen on Aug. 31. It was listed as the getaway car for three Camden men who allegedly were involved in the fatal shooting of a casino reveler.

The alleged getaway car in the fatal shooting of an Atlantic City casino reveler early Sunday morning was reported stolen from a Haddonfield resident on Aug. 31.

Three Camden men have been charged in the fatal shooting of a Somerset County man and the wounding of his date near a casino parking lot. The trio was spotted in another casino parking lot earlier in the evening by an employee who fled when she felt threatened by them. The woman jotted down the license plate of the car the men were in and later reported it to police.

It led them to the suspects Phillip Byrd, 20, Eric Darden, 20, and Raheem Simmons, 18, all of Camden. Byrd was arrested at his home Tuesday night and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail, according to a published report. Darden and Simmons were still at large at 6:22 p.m. Wednesday when this story was filed.

The trio is accused of fatally shooting Sunil Rattu, 28, and wounding his date, Radha Ghetia, 24, after pulling a gun on them at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort garage early Sunday morning. Rattu was shot twice in the head.

The alleged getaway car, the gray 2003 Saturn Ion reported stolen from a Haddonfield resident in the 400 block of Marne Avenue, was recovered near the Ferry Avenue PATCO rail line station, according to a published report.

Haddonfield police said Thursday it was not immediately clear from where the car was stolen. The owner said she lent it to her daughter and her boyfriend and they did not return it.
