Bodies of Missing Kids Found in Raritan, Foul Play Not Suspected

The New Brunswick Police Department said Monday night that foul play is not currently suspected in the deaths of two New Brunswick boys found in the Raritan River on Monday afternoon.

Francisco Perera, 10 and Devine Nicholas, 11, both of New Brunswick, were found in the Raritan River on Monday afternoon after Perera's body was discovered on the banks of the Raritan River.

Nicholas's body was found in the river a few hours later by police combing the waters.

"A preliminary police investigation does not indicate foul play was involved in either juvenile’s death," a press release from the New Brunswick Police Department said late Monday night.

The NJ State Police , stating that Perera had gone missing on Sunday night after telling his mother that they were going to a park near his Somerset Street home. Nicholas was also reported missing since Sunday night in the same alert.

According to New Brunswick Police, Perera's mother notified police at noon Monday after her son did not return home, beginning a search by police for the boys.

Perera was found on the Highland Park banks of the Raritan River, just below the Albany Street bridge, around 3 p.m.

Nicholas's body was spotted further down the river approximately three hours after Perera was found.

According to a report on NJ.com, Nicholas's mother, Carol Leonard, told a reporter that the two boys did not frequent the river area.

According to New Brunswick Police, agencies that assisted with the search for the boys included the New Brunswick Fire Department, the Highland Park Police and Fire departments, the Perth Amboy Police and Fire Department Marine Units, the Somerset County Dive Team, and the New Jersey State Police.
