Don't Forget to Vote: Fire Commissioners Election Held Saturday In Hillsborough

Three candidates vie for two open three-year seats in Saturday's election. Four questions will also appear on the ballot.

Did you know Saturday is an election day? The Fire Commissioners election will be held Feb. 21 as three candidates vie for two open commission seats in Hillsborough.

P. Michael Carone, Patrick Buckley and Charlie R. Davis III are running for two commission seats. Each seat carries a three-year term. Polls will be open from 2 until 9 p.m. at Hillsborough Township Municipal Complex, The Peter J. Biondi Building, located at 379 South Branch Road in Hillsborough.

The following four questions will also appear on the ballot:

1) Shall the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Township of Hillsborough, County of Somerset, be authorized to fix, determine and certify to the tax assessor of the Township of Hillsborough, the amount of $1,997,691.00 as and for the current expense to be raised for the ensuing year, including Apparatus and Equipment Housing, Insurance, Uniform Fire Code, Neshanic Contract, Administrative Expenses, Contingencies and Appropriations for Fire Company #1, #2 and #3?

2) Shall the Board of Fire Commissioners be authorized to spend not in excess of $715,000.00 for the purchase of a pumper in 2016?

3) Shall the Board of Fire Commissioners be authorized to spend not in excess of $60,000.00 for the purchase of new turnout gear in 2016?

4) Shall the Board of Fire Commissioners be authorized to spend not in excess of $30,000.00 for the purchase of new fire hose to replace 30-year- old hose in 2016?
