Flooding, Downed Trees Reported In Somerset County

Drivers are being advised to avoid any flooded roadways on Monday.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Flooding issues remain a problem in Somerset County on Tuesday.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the Griggstowns Causeway in Montgomery Township due to flooding. It will be closed until further notice.

The causeway was closed on Monday morning and remains closed as of 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

As of 6 a.m. on Tuesday, the Millstone River is at 10.21 feet high, which is over the flooding level of 9.5 feet, , according to the National Weather Service.

North Branch Raritan River between Bridgewater and Branchburg was rising on Monday but has since receded.

Additionally, Montgomery Road in Hillsborough between Davids Lane and Pschorn Lane was closed due to a down tree and powerlines across the roadway. It has since reopened as of 11 a.m. Monday.

Downed wires were also previously reported Sunday night on Papen Road in Bridgewater causing the road to close from Tilton Road to Carteret Road.

Some power outages were also being reported. PSE&G reports less than five customers without power while JCP&L is reporting 39 without power in Hillsborough, Basking Ridge and Bernardsville. Power is expected to be restored by 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Monday: Rain likely before 10 a.m., then snow likely between 10 a.m. and noon, then a slight chance of rain and snow afternoon. Cloudy, with a high near 41. Breezy, with a south wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Tuesday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 21. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. South wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday Night: A chance of rain before 10 p.m., then a chance of rain and snow between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m., then a chance of snow after 3 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 29. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
