The Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services, working with the Somerville Metro Lions Club, is providing an opportunity for the public to donate no-longer-used prescription eyeglasses.

Freeholder Deputy Director Patricia Walsh and Freeholder Patrick Scaglione recently joined members of the local Lions Club chapter to place a new collection box in the lobby of the Somerset County Human Services Building at 27 Warren St. Eyeglasses can be dropped off there weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., except holidays.

The Somerville Metro Lions Club collects used eyeglasses – prescription, reading and sunglasses – for recycling at the New Jersey Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center in Trenton. Club members also visit the center at least once a year to volunteer in the many areas where help is needed, such as sorting, moving and classifying donated glasses.

The local Lions Club also provides free check-ups and prescription eyeglasses for needy residents in Somerville and neighboring towns.
