Hillsborough Grad Helps To Increase Children's Enthusiasm For Reading, Writing
Terissa Alex, a freshman at George Washington University and a graduate of Hillsborough High School, earned the Girl Scout Gold Award.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A college freshman and Hillsborough High School graduate, Terissa Alex, was honored by the Township Committee for earning the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award as a member of Troop 60058.
"It was one of the best experiences I have ever had in my life," said Alex of achieving the award at the Nov. 25 Committee meeting.
Mayor John Ciccarelli presented the proclamation to Alex.

"The Hillsborough Township Committee recognizes the many hours Terissa devoted to earning her Girl Scout Gold Award, working diligently to achieve this highly coveted recognition," according to the proclamation.
Alex, who is a freshman at George Washington University, used technology and project-based learning to increase children's love for reading and writing from grades 1 to 5.

She created online books in Canva about a character who did something positive in their community. She also created care packages for firefighters and held book drives to achieve the Gold Award.
"I've been a Girl Scout since I was in kindergarten. It's been a pretty important experience in my life, and it's made me a more dedicated and a more compassionate, and organized person," said Alex.
Alex was a member of the Mock Trial team, the Hillsborough High School Choir, and Mixed Chorale. Terissa has been selected for the George Washington University Model United Nations Travel Team.
She also volunteered at Raising Hope Charity as Vice President, a Toastmaster Vice President, in the youth choir at church, and as a youth leader at church.
"Terissa Alex serves as an example to the youth of Hillsborough Township through her achievements, leadership, and community service. We are very proud that Terissa is a member of our community," according to the proclamation.
