HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

This submission comes from Bob Ferretti of Hillsborough, who nominated a leader in St. Joe's Youth Group Delaney Smith of Hillsborough:

Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
Delaney saw a need and found a way to fill it. She is connecting home bound seniors who want to donate to the Hillsborough Food Bank but can't leave their homes to do so with people who are willing to drive around Hillsborough to collect the food donations. Many people who are taking advantage of the service are ordering extra food when they purchase (using Instacart, other grocery delivery services or even when family members are buying the food) in order to donate. This is a great way to allow people to help — even when they can't leave their homes.

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?:
Delaney was one of the youth coordinators of the 30 Hour Famine for St. Joseph Church last year and helped raise more than $10,000 to fight hunger around the world. Since the 30 Hour Famine had to be canceled this year she found a way to help out locally.

Thank you for all you do, Delaney!
