HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough's heavy metal band, Nuse, released a new record and music video this week for their single "Malibu," which is a long-anticipated follow-up to Evilution, Vol. I EP in 2021. (Watch the music video below)

Nuse has been a long staple in the Metal community since 1993.

The Evilution "series" is a collection of songs where the "good" of society overcomes all of its "evils" based on Proverbs 24:16. This proverb is a spinoff of Nuse’s 2012 song "War Face" on the 2012 LP release "All American Beat Down."

"The song/video for Malibu centers on an individual who feels trapped by society’s interpretation of idealism… the perfect job, the perfect family, the perfect career. This idealism, or the pursuit of idealism, puts this individual in perpetual turmoil because his 'true' self is an artist with a passion for music/art… society does not view a career path into these fields as 'successful' so the main character settles for 'keeping up with the Joneses'," said lead vocalist/guitarist Mike LaMastro to Patch.

The video was scripted by the members of the band, and lead LaMastro created the video using live footage and AI.

"It’s amazing the technology out there… Malibu was the first song completed in its entirety on the new record back in March. We were already two long months into the recording process and I just needed a break. At one of our rehearsals we talked about the concept behind Malibu and I just ran with it using AI. It was my first time diving into using AI technology to generate video content and it was a nice break in the action to the monotonous recording and audio engineering sessions I was conducting. I’m a little bit of a strange bird in the fact I like to 'geek out' in the tech space… I find it therapeutic and relaxing. I think it came out pretty cool," said LaMastro.

The single first dropped May 1 and the record dropped on July 7. The record was number 3 in the country for most "added" metal band to US terrestrial radio.

"We are extremely proud of the new record. I think we have been true to form with our style but we added a few new flavors on this record; not because we wanted to be trendy, it was because of what we were 'feeling.' We never try and be anything other than true to ourselves and our brand, which is old-school Thrash and Hardcore," said LaMastro. "We play what we feel and what we feel is the need to keep our fanbase in mind because that is what drives us."
