Hillsborough Pitcher Named to Frosh All-American Team
Paul Mammino and other Hillsborough players enjoy standout college seasons.

Wagner College's "crafty lefty" pitcher Paul Mammino was named to the 2013 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Mammino, a 2012 Hillsborough High School graduate, was hailed as a "revelation" for the school, "turning in arguably the finest season by a first-year pitcher in school history." Mammino notched a 6-2 record, with 41 strikeouts, and a team-low 3.58 ERA over 71.1 innings. He kept opposing hitters to a .255 batting average.
The school reported Mammino was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week four times, a school record. He allowed two earned runs or less in 10 of his 14 games, including a one-hitter in the Wagner College Seahawks‘ 8-1 victory over Central Connecticut (he struck out five and was two outs short of a no-hitter in that game).

Mammino's coach at Hillsborough, Norm Hewitt, said Mammino's outstanding season was one of several enjoyed by his former players.
"Our collegiate players did well this past season and we are extremely proud of all," he said, mentioning Evan Edelman, NJ.com's Player of the Year for 2012, was named to the NJAC All Rookie team, after a strong first year at The College of New Jersey.

Other standouts noted by Hewitt include sophomore Matt Calamoneri, who attends the University of Scranton and was selected to play in the Cape Cod Collegiate League, and Ryan Luckach, a sophomore at Hartford who lead his Division 1 team in batting.
"Others were successful but these figures gained much notoriety," Hewitt added. "Just so proud of them all."
Hewitt is also excited about the prospects for next season, when four more players will join college level ball, with two planning walk-ons for their schools. The additional players include Rob Foti at TCNJ, Matt Tackach at Eastern Kenticky, Mike Occhi at Kean and Brian Bloom at the Pennsylvania Instiute of Technology.
Elmer Chang plans to try a walk-on at Rutgers and Cory ODonahue will walk on at William and Mary.
