Hillsborough Scouts Honored For Reaching Highest Achievement Level
Reya Varun and Laura Weintraub both received the Gold Award, and Jiachen Jiang reached the rank of Eagle Scout.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — The Township Committee recently honored three Hillsborough Girl and Boy Scouts for their achievements.
Mayor John Ciccarelli presented the scouts with their proclamations at the Nov. 25 Committee meeting.

Reya Varun, a Freshman at the University of Connecticut, a graduate of Hillsborough High School, and a member of Girl Scout Troop 60056, has earned her Gold Award.
Her Gold Award project consisted of creating a digital handbook of all the ensembles Hillsborough High School has to offer, assisting younger students in learning more about the Hillsborough High School Band Program. The handbook includes a video of testimonials and advice from band students.

The project took 83 hours to complete with the assistance of 12 individuals; and
Varun was a member of the Pride of Hillsborough Marching Band, Hillsborough High School Wind Ensemble, Saxophone Quarter, Pit Orchestra, and Jazz Ensemble. Varun was also a member of the Tri-M Honor Society and French Honor Society
She is currently a member of the University of Connecticut Marching Band.
"Reya Varun serves as an example to the youth of Hillsborough Township through her achievements, leadership, and community service. We are very proud that Reya is a member of our community," according to the proclamation.
Laura Weintraub
Laura Weintraub, a senior at Hillsborough High School and a member of Girl Scout Troop 61084, has earned her Gold Award.
Her Gold Award project educated the community on eating healthy and making simple, fun snacks by hosting tables with samples of healthy snacks at the Green Living and Wellness Fair, ShopRite, and National Night Out.
The project took 96 hours to complete with the assistance of many people.
Weintraub is a member of the French Honor Society, Robotics Team 75 Safety Manager, Days
for Girls Sewing Manager, and a member of the Hillsborough High School Marching Band, and volunteers through Girl Scouts and earned the Presidential Volunteer Service Award in 2018, volunteers with Project Graduation, and SAVE.
She has been a Girl Scout for 13 years.
"Laura Weintraub serves as an example to the youth of Hillsborough Township through her
achievements, leadership, and community service. We are very proud that Laura is a member of our community," according to the proclamation.
Jiachen Jiang
Jiachen Jiang, a Senior at Hillsborough High School and member of Boy Scout Troop 1776, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Jiang’s Eagle Scout project consisted of constructing a 20-foot flagpole and a dwarf peach tree,
surrounded by a mulch bed and wooden split rail fence components, a solar panel, a solar charging controller, and floodlights.
The project took a total of 82 hours with the assistance of 10 people; and
Jiang served as Senior Patrol Leader of high-adventure trips to Alaska, Massachusetts, and Vermont, Service Guide, Webmaster, and New Scout Guide.
He won first place in the International@RoboCup Junior Rescue Simulation League, achieved Gold Division in the USA Computing Olympiad, won two Gold Medals in the National German Exam, and attained a DipABRSM in Music Performance with distinction.
Jiang has served more than 250 service hours as a Boy Scout, over 100 outreach hours with Hillsborough High School Robotics, and volunteered 30 hours at Hillsborough High School ESY.
"Jiachen serves as an example to the youth of Hillsborough Township through his high level of leadership and community service, and we are very proud that he is a member of our community," according to the proclamation.
