A geomagnetic storm could make the Northern Lights visible in New Jersey this Halloween.
NEW JERSEY — It is Halloween weekend and mother nature may have a special treat in store for us. A geomagnetic storm could make the Northern Lights visible in New Jersey on Sunday night, forecasters predict.
The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center said a moderate geomagnetic storm watch is in place through Sunday.

The storm on Sunday is classified as a "G2" on the Space Weather Prediction Center's five-point scale, resulting from a coronal mass ejection from the sun.
The storm is predicted to be visible as low as Pennsylvania to Iowa to Oregon.

The storm should have just enough magnitude to make the Northern Lights visible in the Garden State. Viewers would need to hunt for areas with no light pollution.
The latest projections show Sunday there may be some special lights for kids out trick or treating.
The Space Weather Prediction Center has a list of tips for viewing the aurora and updates its dashboards regularly with the latest geomagnetic conditions.
