Power Outages, Downed Wires In Hillsborough Due To High Winds

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough residents are waking up to power outages, downed wires and road closures as a storm blows through the area.

Mountainview Road between East Mountain Road and Pleasantview Road is closed along with Amwell Road between Zion Road and Wertsville Road both due to downed wires, Hillsborough Police announced around 6:15 a.m. on Friday.

As of 7:15 a.m. on Friday, PSE&G is reporting more than 1,000 customers without power including 225 in Hillsborough. The other outages are reported in Green Brook and North Plainfield. Power is expected to be restored by 7:15 on Friday night.

JCP&L is also reporting more than 1,300 without power including almost 900 customers in Hillsborough due to the "severe weather." JCP&L did not report a restoration time.

The National Weather Service has placed Hillsborough under a wind advisory until 10 a.m. on Friday. The township may see winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.

"Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result," according to NWS.

Here is a look at the weather forecast ahead:

Friday: A chance of showers, mainly before 8 a.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a temperature falling to around 39 by 5 p.m. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 21. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.

Saturday: A slight chance of rain and snow showers before noon, then a chance of rain showers between noon and 4 p.m., then a slight chance of rain and snow showers after 4 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 44. Breezy, with a south wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west 15 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 15. Blustery, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 38. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 23.
